Dolphins, great breeze, and two wildcard team entries ensured that Act 5 of the Extreme Sailing Series in Porto did not disappoint. Even after 30 races, the point spread was so tight that the top two teams–The Wave, Muscat, and Alinghi–entered into the final double pointer with just three points between them.
While it won’t get them on the water any sooner, Shannon Falcone’s Oracle Team USA-sponsored entry into the Red Bull Flugtag, using recycled parts of the team’s demolished AC72 wing, helped lift morale and point the team toward brighter days.
The third act of the series brought great breeze and the closest finish so far this year, with The Wave, Muscat _coming out on top after 4 days and 29 races. _The Wave, Muscat, headed by Leigh McMillan now stands in first overall with 29 points. Close behind them is French _Groupe Edmond de Rothschild _with 25 points, and then in third _Red Bull Sail__ing Team _with 24 points. Not to be discounted is _Oman Air _in 4th with 23 points total.
