The full-rig winner was Clay Johnson, with only 6 points in 7 races after his drop, and the radial winner was Kelly McGlynn, also with just 6 points. Video credit goes to Jon Deutsch, who taped much of the regatta from the bow of his boat, and arranged some of the highlights in this compilation. With the breeze hanging between 10-17 knots, it was a glorious day of sailing.
This throwback article from our July/August 1997 issue originally came out soon after it was announced that the 49er had been selected for the 2000 Olympics. As ISAF has recently announced that the 49er FX will be the women’s skiff boat at the 2016 Olympics, Kevin Hall’s tips and tricks prove to still be relevant today.
