Chuck Allen, 34, returns for a second year as a Boat of the Year Judge for 2003. An accomplished racing sailor from Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island, Allen can often be found these days on big boats such as the Farr 40 Total Eclipse, CM 60 Carrerra and R/P 66 Blue Yankee as tactician or alternate helmsman respectively.
After graduating from the University of Rhode Island with All-American honors in 1990, Allen has since distinguished himself with top 10 finishes at major championships in the J/24, Melges 24, Shields, and Mumm 30 classes. Last summer he won the season championship in Ensign Fleet 4 and the year before, with his partner Pete Denton, won the Shields Fleet 9 season championship. When not racing, Allen manages North Sails Cruising Direct subsidiary.
