By edging out Spike Boston’s Frequent Flyer team by one point to win the S2 7.9 division, David Flechsig’s Rooster Tail earned top honors at the 2009 Sperry Top-Sider St. Petersburg NOOD.
When the Flying Tigers began setting their spinnakers on the first “beat,” crossing paths with Melges 24s headed in the opposite direction, also flying chutes, that’s when it became abundantly clear that it was time to bring the 2009 Sperry Top-Sider St. Petersburg NOOD to a close.
Before principal race officer Sue Reilly made the call to send the fleet in for the day, however, each of the regatta’s 15 divisions was able to complete one good race in light, but steady, conditions.
Three boats finished the event with perfect scorelines– Bert Rice’s Corsair 24 Mark Twain, Adam Rosen’s and Jeff Marks’ J/105 Wasabi, and Jim Pearson’s Ultimate 20 Slippery– but the overall victory went to David Flechsig’s S2 7.9 Rooster Tail. Flechsig’s team edged out Spike Boston’s Frequent Flyer team by one point to win the 10-boat division…and a trip to the NOOD Championships in the Caribbean this November.
Dave Ullman won the 44-boat Melges 24 division and John Poulson took the 14-boat J/24 division.
