At the Yacht Club of Rio de Janiero (Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro), the next two weeks will be full of celebrity sailor appearances as Rio’s International Sailing Week begins. The regatta is one of the final events scheduled for Guanabara Bay before the Games.
The regatta is also the 2016 South American Championship for the 49er and 49er FX classes. It’s an opportunity for teams to measure the performance of their Olympic sails, boats and other gear ahead of the Games, as well as an opportunity to learn their competition and develop more race tactics on the Bay.
The regatta will feature all Olympic classes, and is sailing on the same courses as the games. The 49ers and RS:X (men, women and youth) will race through July 14, then the Nacra, Finn, Laser and Laser Radial will take the stage from July 15-18. Finally, the event wraps up with the 470 classes, racing July 19-22.
