MedCup Trofeo La Reina

Newsbrief

The IX Trofeo S.M. La Reina Rolex Cup, organized by the Royal Club Nautico de Valencia, ended with a beautiful day of sailing and two races for the TP52s and GP42 divisions and one for the IMS and RN classes in a building easterly breeze that reached 15 knots and created a choppy sea. There was more highly competitive racing amongst the TP52s, where Balearia led by one point overnight from Caixa Galicia and Mutua Madrileña tied in second place. Caixa Galicia achieved the best scoreline today with a 2, 1 and went on to win the TP52 Division for the second year running. “We are very happy with today’s victory,” commented Volvo Ocean Race winner and America’s Cup sailor, John Kostecki, who was tactician on Caixa Galicia for this event. “The goal of the day was to beat Mutua Madrileña. Unfortunately, we had a bad start in the first race and we were in last place for a while. But we fought back to round the first mark in third just behind Mutua. On the final leg we chose the opposite side of the course, but Mutua remained ahead and nothing more changed by the end of the race.. Everything worked very much better for us in the second race which we won.”After three days of hard racing, Mutua Madrileña took second place overall. After a dominant first race where she was far ahead of the fleet almost from the start, the second race of the day did not go so well. A promising first leg ended disappointingly as she lost second place to a fired up Rusal-Sinergy while Baleria got third place overall. For more, click here.
