Opena iPhone Case
When I showed off my shiny new Opena iPhone case to some friends on a Friday night, they were impressed.
“Is that a bottle opener?”
“That’s awesome!”
Pretty soon, I was cracking open cold ones left and right with my phone. Yes, it’s a little unnerving to use an iPhone as a lever to open beers at first. But once you get used to it, you’ll be the life of the party. (Or if you’re already the life of the party like yours truly, you’ll have a new party trick.)
The Opena ($40, openacase.com) is comparable to the multitude of other snap-on hard plastic cases on the market and comes in black and white. It fits iPhone 4 and 4S without adding a ton of bulk, but still feels solid and durable in your hand.
Slide the bottle opener out of the bottom of your phone by pressing down through the opening in the back of the case, and the advertised “built-in cool factor” comes out to play. The stainless steel bottle opener fits well in the case, moves smoothly to its functional position, and doesn’t wiggle around. You can slide the opener out with one hand to get extra style points.
While it’s the perfect accessory for post-sailing tent parties, just remember that it doesn’t make your phone waterproof (or prevent drunk texting)! I’m planning to stash my Opena in a dry bag this summer and volunteer for cooler duty during beercan races. If you’re an iPhone-using, beer-loving sailor like me, this could be your perfect case.
